Please be patient for the pictures to load, it's worth the wait.

Victorian

Silver mounted

Glass Box

Up for auction is a wonderful old box that is in amazing condition!! You could use it to hold earrings, cuff links, paper clips, beads, display it, etc...

The jar is made out of glass and that is smooth on the sides with a star on the bottom. It has a silver band around the top of the glass box...very unusual and very high quality piece!!

The top is made out of solid sterling silver and slips onto the jar (perfect fit). In the middle of the lid there is a family crest of a bird/griffin that is holding a leopard head with a crown on it. Around the outside is a fancy engine turned design.

This was made in London, England in 1854.  WOW!!

Monogram: none

Measurements:

Length:      2 1/2"

Width:       1"

Height:      1 1/2"

Weight:     94 grams (lid = 23 grams ~ heavy!)

Marks: {GB} maker mark {lion passant} sterling {leopard head} town mark {t} date letter for 1854 {left facing profile} duty mark

Condition: Excellent condition. There are no dings or dents on the lid and the glass is free of cracks, fogging, etc...

Rating = 10 out of 10

Please see my other auctions for LOTS of sterling & coin silver. I will have some other vintage vanity jars up for sale on Ebay this month, so please keep checking my auctions.

Trouble viewing this item?  you can try the following: put the curser over the spot where the pic should be, then right-click, & from the drop-down menu, choose show picture or if you are on AOL you may want to shrink your AOL browser (don't close it) and open either Internet Explorer or Netscape browser. They are a much larger browser and you shouldn't have a problem.

Payment Terms

Payment is due within ten (10) days of auction close. At this time, I only accept PayPal. Effective January 15, 2009, Ebay has issued a new policy of "no paper transactions". They own PayPal, I'll let you do the math :o) If payment is not received on time, Buyer forfeits all rights to purchase and Seller reserves the right to relist the item for sale.

Satisfaction

Please read my feedback, most customers feel that my items are much better in person than how I described to them to be on the auction page. I only make refunds for errors in listings, I do not make them due to buyers remorse. I list all obvious flaws - this does not mean I will catch every single pin head size ding on a 150 year old item. This is what I consider "expected". If I say it has a wavy feel to it and you don't know what that means, email me before bidding. Don't wait until you have received it to say "well, I saw that you said wavy...but, I didn't know what that meant" or "I looked up the maker after I received my spoon and he was in business in 1855, not 1854". Please use your own reference material to determine the age/authenticity. Look it up before you bid, not after you receive the item. I may be getting my information from a different book, or I may have made a typo, or I just plain might be wrong. Errors on my part are never intentional, but they do happen ~ afterall, I am human :) On occasion I add to my descriptions, please check for additions at the bottom of this page before placing  your final bid.

If you do receive an item that you aren't happy with, email me. I don't like to have unhappy customers, only happy ones. Check my feedback, I'm a fair and honest seller. Please give me the chance to fix the problem before you leave a negative feedback. I make my living selling on Ebay and when a customer leaves a negative feedback, that hurts my reputation (and my feelings :-). If I do make an error, I refund shipping costs ~ BOTH ways!

Requests for refunds must be made within 3 days of receiving your purchase and items must be returned within 7 days of notifying me, in their original condition.

U.S. Shipping & Insurance

I ship via the USPS and I DO combine shipping fees. If you win more than one auction, I will take the highest shipping fee and add .75 cents for each additional item. Included in your shipping fee is delivery confirmation & insurance against loss or damage to the item.

IMPORTANT          International Shipping                  IMPORTANT

It is the responsibility of the buyer to pay duty/VAT tax. Please do not ask me to fudge on the custom's forms.

I ship international items via the U.S. Postal Service first class mail. This does not include insurance or tracking. If the value of your package is over $100.00, I will be sending your package registered mail. Registered mail allows me to be able to track your package and does not cover the package against damage. The fee that I am charged for this by our local post office is $12.00 and will be added to the price of your shipping cost.

If you would like, I am able to insure your item against loss or damage. However, the only way that our post office will allow me to get insurance is if I send it priority mail. The fee will be approximately $30.00 for any package weighing 1 pound or less. There are some countries that our post office will not allow me to ship an item to with insurance. If this is important to you, please email me before bidding and I will check it out for you. If you elect to not have insurance, I will not take any responsibility for a lost or damaged item - no exceptions.  I will combine the cost of shipping if you win more than one auction... I am very fair on my shipping fees.
