DASHIKI DRESS ~ Gorgeous Black Dashiki caftan with elaborate golden orange embroidered details around the “V” neck (front and back) as well as a around the boarder of the bottom of the skirt . The boarder around the bottom of the skirt has a beautiful “peek-a-boo” design and splits at the sides. Has Matching Black headwrap/scarf.  Purchased in Kenya, Africa!

This dress is New without Tags!  The headwrap/scarf has a couple of small splits along the fabric grain.  Typical with this type of fabric.  But it is not noticible when used as headwrap.

The word Dashiki originated in Nigeria. In Nigeria the Dashiki was worn for comfort in the hot climate. In America, it was worn to send a message. That was the situation when the Dashiki was imported into the English language in America in the late 1960s. The Dashiki rebelled against the fashions of the day: brightly colored instead of drab, loose instead of tight. It could be worn defiantly on occasions that normally would call for formal wear. The Dashiki was introduced as a way to protest society's disrespect for African Americans. It was a symbol of affirmation, standing for "black is beautiful," a return to African roots, and insistence on full rights in American society. The 1960s were the hippie era too, and whites in the counterculture sometimes adopted the Dashiki for its rebellious symbolism as well as its anti-mainstream fashion statement. The militancy of the 1960s has faded, but the Dashiki has not. It has become an ingredient of American fashion, a colorful, comfortable garment for all occasions.

Please wait & pay in ONE invoice.  If no payment or contact within 3 days of close of auction, item will be offered to next highest bidder and a report for non-payment to Ebay and negative feedback will be left.  I apologize that this is necessary but there have been far too many non-payments for items lately.  I am more than willing to work things out if there is a problem with payment.  But no responses to my emails indicates non-payment which I will not tolerate! We lost our jobs in January and Ebay sales pays for our groceries!

Shipping is to continental U.S.A. Please ask for rates for Alaska, Hawaii, & Puerto Rico. Items are usually shipped via USPS Priority mail with delivery confirmation. If you win more than one item, (or are currently bidding on other items ending within 3 days) please notify me and I will be happy to combine shipping depending on size of items.  Due to Ebay’s new policy regarding insurance, Insurance is no longer “optional” and will automatically be included on fragile items.  This will reflect a higher shipping cost in some cases, depending on the item.  Please understand this when leaving feedback.  This is to protect your item during shipping.  All shipping claims should be filed by buyer. Insurance covers the item you purchased and not the shipping. I will not refund shipping on insurance claims!
