As a subsidiary company of zeiss hensoldt is the manufacturer of the optical systems for zeiss, particularly the hight quality optics for military use are manufactured by hensoldt.

The 8x30 Fero-D 16 is, beside the Fero-D 18 and Fero-D 19, member of hensoldt´s latest line of binoculars, exclusively developed and produced for military use and is delivered to various armed forces since 1990. It is actually in use by the german armed forces.

The binocular is made up of a metal housing with a complete rubber armouring and fitted with a reticle. It is waterproofed and nitrogen purged to prevent internal fogging. The individually focusing oculars are equipped with down-foldable rubber eye-cups for spectacle wearers.
