RARE SIDESHOW 12" BORIS KARLOFF FRANKENSTEIN MIB GI JOE

For auction a MIB 12" action figure of BORIS KARLOFF as The Frankenstein Monster from the classic 1931 Universal film, Frankenstein and manufactured in 2000 by Sideshow Collectibles in a limited run of 3,500 and out of production for years.

In 1931, Universal Studios produced Frankenstein, a film that would become the gold standard of classic monster horror films and rocket Boris Karloff into icon status. Seventy years later Sideshow Collectibles entered the 12” action figure market with "the first fully licensed 'actual likeness' 12" figure of Boris Karloff as the monster Frankenstein!” After this figure, Sideshow produced a vast array of 12” action figures in the Universal Studio’s classic monster line.

A nice set of accessories comes with the figure including a brain in a jar, a handful of daisies, shackles, and a cobblestone foot stand. Equally impressive is Sideshow’s packaging (see pics) which featured a replica of the original movie poster on the front and a photo from the film on the back. It is a gatefold window box that opens like a book and has a velcro fastener. The figure itself has 20 points of articulation and dressed in a replica of the costume Karloff wore. The head sculpt is remarkable.

This figure also demonstrates Sideshow’s commitment to the artist. The primary sculptor of this figure, Oluf W. Hartvigson is credited on the outside of the package and other members of the creative team are credited on the inner 5th panel. It also includes the cast of characters, listing The Monster as "?" as in the film's original credits.

This package has some minor shelf wear and the back flap on the bottom is worn and had tape applied OVER the factory tape to keep it closed (see scan).  Feel free to email for a larger image of this area or the front and/or back of the box.

The first pic is made up of stock photos to give a clear view of the product, since it didn't scan so well. The second pic is a scan of the actual figure in its package and a detail of the aforementioned back bottom flap and tape. The scan of the figure was lightened so it would show up and any white spots are on the scanning bed and not on the clear plastic or the action figure.
