Charles Strickland, a conventional stockbroker, abandons his wife and children for Paris and Tahiti, to live his life as a painter. Whilst his betrayal of family, duty and honour gives him the freedom to achieve greatness, his decision leads to an obsession which carries severe implications. Inspired by the life of Paul Gauguin, The Moon and Sixpence is at once a satiric caricature of Edwardian conventions and a vivid portrayal of the mentality of a genius.

Copy in VGC, pages very lightly tanned, previous owner's name on first page. Handsome copy.

We're happy to combine post/shipping. Australian customers can buy up to 3 kilograms of books (generally about 6-8 titles) from the store and only pay $9.90 in postage. If a book's postage is already quoted at $9.90, knock yourself out and make up 3 kilograms worth! Feel free to email me if you would like a quote on books you have chosen.

Outside Australia postage on items differs. Please email for a quote before purchasing. I accept Paypal from international customers. Please don't post any cheques or money orders as they cannot be cashed.

NOTES ON BOOK CONDITION

NEW - A new book is unread, in print, and in perfect condition with no defects.

AS NEW - To be used only when the book is in the same immaculate condition to which it was published. There can be no defects, and the dust jacket (if it was issued with one) must be perfect, without any tears.

EXCELLENT (EC) - Approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. For the use of the term Excellent, there must also be no major defects, and if the jacket has a small tear or other anomaly, this will be noted.

VERY GOOD (VGC) - Describes a book that does show some small signs of wear. Any defects will be noted.

GOOD (GC) - Describes the average used worn book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects will be noted.

FAIR - Worn book that has complete text pages but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects will be noted.

POOR - Describes a book that is sufficiently worn, to the point that its only merit is as a Reading Copy because it does have the complete and legible text. Any missing maps or plates will be noted. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.

As a rule, we never list books with serious damage. Faults will always be described accurately. Thanks for reading through to the end.
