This was my toy iron when I was a little girl (the ironing board is listed in a separate auction). I was born in 1955 and played with it when I was about 5 years old so I think it could have its age counted from about 1960 -- I am not an expert on antiques but I thought if it was over 25 years old it was an antique. Not sure of the difference between vintage and antique so maybe e-bay shoppers can enlighten me.
Anyway, the little iron is metal (I'm guessing tin as it is very light weight), with a white plastic handle. It is a turquoise blue, with silver detailing under the handle. "Nassau" is printed on top of it. The bottom of the flat, iron part is worn (from ironing all those dolly clothes!) It measures approximately 6 1/2" long and 3" wide.
Warning -- this has a real, electric cord! Scarey! I just plugged it in and was amazed to find it still works! Yes, it gets very warm but not hot enough to burn a little hand. I personally, would not recommend this to be played with. I would consider it a collector's item and not a toy anymore. (can you imagine a 5 year getting to plug something into a live plug? No -- neither can I. They sure have changed safety standards in the last 50+ years!) Cord is not frayed or damaged.
Bottom of the toy iron has etched on it from the manufacturer: Nassau Prods. Corp., Troy, N.Y., Cat. No. 124-64. 120 V. 10 W. Hope this finds its way to an appreciative collector. It would also make a cute decoration in a laundry room. Again, I would not recommend this for a toy to play with. Its been stored in my mom's attic for a long time so it could be gently cleaned. Happy bidding! Check out my other items!
