A Pair of Satsuma Moriage Vases
Moriage is a special type of raised decoration used
on some Japanese pottery. Sometimes pieces of clay were shaped by hand and
applied to the item; sometimes the clay was squeezed from a tube in the way we
apply cake frosting. One type of Moriage is called Dragon-ware by collectors. Offered is a pair of Satsuma vases. A Beijing
woman adorns one vase, a Lohan on the second. A gilded dragon wraps the vase. The
gilding is in excellent condition. This exemplifies the
features and techniques that represent what you look for in a Satsuma piece. This piece measures: Both
pieces are 6 " Tall Marked “Made in Japan” on both bases No chips, cracks, or repairs. Good condition considering their age. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING |
