A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
Moriage is a special type of raised decoration used
on some Japanese pottery. Sometimes pieces of clay were shaped by hand and
applied to the item; sometimes the clay was squeezed from a tube in the way we
apply cake frosting. One type of Moriage is called Dragonware by collectors.
The vase is adorned by
a Beijing woman on one side and a Lohan the other. A dragon decorated with a
combination of gilding and Moriage wraps the vase. The gilding is fair condition
showing wear on the rim.
This exemplifies the
features and techniques that represent what you look for in a Satsuma piece.
