Up for auction is a a 1920s BAND-AID brand tin with the words "Speed bandage Mercurochrome" and the red cross design on the front. Before Band-aid had upright tins, they had flat ones in a couple of different designs. (See my other auctions) This would make a great addition to your collection!
The fine print on the front reads"Pat December 28, 1826" It also reads: "A convenient covering for cuts, burns, blisters, bruises or abrasions." Bruises? How strange.
The inside cover has pictorial instructions for putting on a band-aid because band-aids were new in the 1920s.
This tin is in good to fair condition as you can see in the photos. (just a little rust)
I originally bought it for an advertising research project/presentation. It's time for me to downsize and move, so I'm selling off my collections.
I think this would make a great gift for a nostalgic friend who loves old advertising. I also think it would make a good gift for someone in the medical industry. I think the trend towards thoughtful, recycled gift giving is a good one!
Thanks for looking! Happy Bidding! |
