| An antique hand painted porcelain rouge or powder jar showing a great likeness of a hunt master calling the hounds on the lid. Excellent detail from the master and his horn right down to the keen eared hounds. The bottom of the jar is done in matching color to emulate the countryside. The lid and collar appear to be hand forged brass. There is a small(3/4" diameter) mirror in the lid. It shows about 50% silvering loss but is still usable. I would guess the jar to be turn of the century Arts & Crafts period. It measures 1 1/8" height x 1 5/8" diameter at the widest point. It is in very nice condition. No chips, cracks and minimal, if any, paint loss. The lid snaps shut securely. The inside shows rouge residue which would come clean with nail polish remover. This jar has all kinds of possibilities for uses. It's a very classy old item. The base shows a lightly incised J makers mark under the fired finish. Perfect for the right girl. Starts low with no reserve. |
