This listing features a book by Cordelia Harris Turner, THE FLORAL KINGDOM: its History, Sentiment and Poetry.  (Chicago, IL: Standard Columbian Company, 1891 "sold only by subscription" 476 pp., ill. with engraved designs and pasted in color lithographed plates, "index of sentiment;"  a large format floral dictionary, covering over 300 plants including plant lore and poetry citations for each.  The work also includes botanical information and information on plant classifications as well as cultural data.   There are many illustrations in this book.  Measures 10.25 tall x 8.25 wide x 1.75 deep.
 
This book has a red cloth cover with silver and black decoration.  The front and back cover are intact. The cover on the upper quarter of the spine is missing.  The cover on the back is in poor shape with spotting. Overall the cover has wear and some slight tears. The pages are slightly darkened around the edges due to age.  Some are worn or slightly torn.  Some pages are becoming loose from the binding which is splitting. Also the original owners name is written on the inside over page in pencil along with the date 1893.  I am not a expert and have described this to the best of my ability.  I am selling it as I found it so please ask questions.  It is so lovely and interesting to read especially if you love the Victorian era.
