We offer a fine automaton singing bird in cage, signed MADE IN FRANCE and numbered 5433341on the bottom, as well as 132 on the lowest side rim.. Attributed to Bontems.This bird is a little tired, as the works need a tune up. It winds and bird's head moves and sings, however, the motion and the chirping move slowly. The keywind appears to be fine and is working, however, it runs slow, and the chirping is very low.
This plays the chirping, no "music". A tune-up is needed, possibly just a good oiling, not sure.
There is no start or stop pin or mechanism, just the windup.
Displays well, with red and yellow feather bird, brass cage with decorative French wreath embossed around the base.
Also has a nice brass top ball finial and ornate cap.
Not sure if the extra length chain is original to this cage, and can be removed if desired.
Shows good weight, not a flimsy made reproduction. This is the real deal, and guaranteed as such.
