UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD 49er CHINA BLUE & GOLD EGG STAND


Up for auction is a vintage (made in 1950) little egg stand / pedestal egg cup made by Shenango China in the UPRR (UP-1) BLUE and GOLD pattern used by the Union Pacific Railroad. Gold pinstripes around Cobalt Blue band.

The RR purchased this pattern for use on the Name Train "49er" streamliner car which ran between Chicago & San Francisco. Purposly unmarked - as the three railroads which operated the 49er could not agree on a china pattern. In later days, this pattern was also used in railroad restaurants.

This cute little pedestal egg stand sits just 2 1/4" tall & 1 7/8" across top opening. Base measures 1 1/2" across. Excellent condition. No chips or cracks. Super-shiny glaze looks nearly new! Pattern incl. gold is in excellent shape. Marked as shown with the Shenango China New Castle, PA USA bottom stamp & date code of A-8 (dates this vintage piece to 1950) as well as the #44  This pattern was made by several companies including Syracuse China, Scammell Lamberton & Shenango.
