US NAVY China FOULED ANCHOR RELISH-BUTTER TRAY Vntg NOS





Up for auction is a great, vintage USN Navy military relish tray made by the now out-of-business Sterling China of Wellsville, Ohio. Commonly referred to as a relish or pickle tray, Sterling marketed this size/shape as a "Boston Celery". These are perfect for hot dogs, pickles or celery & as butter dishes too! US Navy Wardroom Officer's Mess fouled Anchor topmark logo & stripe in cobalt blue. Measures just over 7 5/8" long x 3 3/4" wide. Excellent unused condition! New-old-stock. No chips, cracks or scratches. Marked on bottom with the Sterling China mark as shown.

During WWII, all the US restaurant manufacturers (Syracuse, Buffalo, Shenango, Mayer, McNicol, Iroquois, Homer Laughlin, Walker, Wallace & Tepco etc.) helped out with the "War Effort" by producing china for our military forces.
