My father brought these binoculars back from Germany after World War II. As described in Stephan Rohan's book "Eyes of the Wehrmacht," these binoculars were called Flakfernohr, and were highly effective for sighting flak batteries and searchlights. This pair is labeled dkl, which indicates that the manufacturer was Scheider, a company still known for high quality optics. This pair was cleaned, however the right lens is chipped, as shown in one of the photos. Otherwise they are in good condition as a collectors item or they could be disassembled and the prisms, objective lenses. or left eyepiece used for astronomical viewing. A pair of these 10X80 binoculars in good condition will sell for $1,000 or more. |
