HISTORY: James Hastings (1852-1922), Scottish Presbyterian theologian, writer, editor, encyclopedist, Free Church minister, founder of The Expository Times which he edited for thirty-three years from 1889 until his death. The works of Hastings include A Dictionary of the Bible, Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics, The Greater Men and Women of the Bible, The Speaker’s Bible, and various other Bible-oriented dictionaries.
