Up for auction is a fabulous antique Art Nouveau Boye Crochet Hook store display case - circa 1919. It is made of a type of plastic (celluloid?, bakelite? I'm not sure.) It has an art nouveau decal on the front advertising the Boye crochet hook. There are two tabs above the decal that I think held a metal crochet hook vertically but the right tab has the end chipped off and will no longer hold a hook. (NOTE: This does not affect the appearance of the piece as this is barely noticeable.) There are 16 divided slots that hold different sized crochet hooks from size 00 to size 14. There are two decals across the top of the slots to indicate the size hook for each slot. There are no hooks included. There is a lid on the back that lifts and holds small items, possibly the metal cases that slipped over the top of some of the finer hooks. The case stands 7" tall by 7" across and 5 1/2" deep. This display sat on the store counter top. It's in very good condition. Aside from the chipped tab described above, there are no other chips or cracks. There are some scratches on the front lower left (see pics). The front decal has darkened with age and has some age crackling but is complete. The decals depicting the hook numbers also has some age crackling but all numbers are clear. The decal on the back is in good condition with some age crackling as well. It reads: SIZE CHART; SIZES; 00-0 FOR MEDIUM HEAVY WOOL, COTTON, TWINE, AND PAPER; 1-2-3 FOR LIGHT HEAVY WOOL, COTTON, SILK AND LINEN; 4 TO 7 FOR LIGHT WOOL, SILK, COTTON AND LINEN; 8 TO 14 FOR THE FINER RANGE OF COTTON, LINEN AND SILK. THIS CABINET IS OWNED BY THE UNDERSIGNED AND LOANED FOR DISPLAY AND SALE OF "BOYE" BRAND MERCHANDISE ONLY. PAT. PENDING; THE BOYE NEEDLE COMPANY; CHICAGO; NEW YORK; SAN FRANCISCO. It could use a good cleaning. There are a number of scuff marks but I'm sure most of them will come out with a good buffing. I have never tried because I didn't want to disturb the decals. I just displayed it in my display cabinet just as I purchased it. I'm downsizing and hope to be moving soon so you get the bargain.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.
