The soundtrack for the Madonna vehicle THE NEXT BEST THING boasts a diverse mix of pop, dance, and electronica. The cast of musicians includes such eclectic acts Manu Chao ("Bongo Bong"), Metisse ("Boom Boom Ba"), and Groove Armada ("If Everybody Looked the Same") alongside pop acts of the day like Christina Aguilera, Beth Orton, and the "material girl" herself.
Madonna contributes to the soundtrack with a remake of the Don McLean classic "American Pie," reinventing the song with modern synth-pop instrumentation and a slick pop beat. Madonna also adds a previously unreleased song called "Time Stood Still." Standout tracks include "Swayambhu," from Solar Twins, "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad," from Moby, and "This Life" from Mandalay.
