Caught in the Middle - Helping children to cope with separation and divorce by Anne Charlish (consultants. Monica Cockett and Dr John Tripp
Specialists now recognise that divorce has a worse effect on children than bereavement. The emotional pain and psychological and material disadvantages suffered by children caught in the middle of their parents separation and divorce is well documented. With two in every give marriages in Britain failing and one in two in the US resulting in divorce, the problem of children affected by their parents separating is a substantial one. One in four children in the UK will experience their parents divorce before the age of sixteen. In the US more than half of all children will h ave to suffer this trauma. Much can be done to counter the effects of this upheaval in childrens lives, if parents work together to put the interests of their children first. With practical advice and encouragement, caught in the middle will help parents to do their very best for their children during a painful and turbulent time."
