Here I have a some brass Bausch & Lomb binoculars. These Binoculars are marked on the turner or knob B & L for Bausch & Lomp. They are engraved Marine, Theater, and Field in the middle arm that moves when the knob is turned. They have have very good optics. There is a knob that switches from one to another. They move very smoothly when focusing. They measure 3 5/16" in the closed position. 4 5/8" wide. These probably date to the late 1800's. There is a minor dent I tried to point out in a picture.
Bausch and Lomb are probably the most well known of the American binocular makers with their origins going back to the 1850s.
They were formed out of the partnership of John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb, both of whom were of German origin.
In the 1870s they started to manufacture in Rochester, and are still there,
Bausch and Lomb began producing binoculars in the early 1890s.
