Rare true first edition of J. D. Salinger's rare book, ''The Catcher in the Rye.'' Boston: Little, Brown & Company: 1951. First edition, first printing, accompanied by first issue dustjacket with all points present including original ''$3.00'' price and photo credit of Salinger's portrait by Lotte Jacobi on rear panel. A handsome copy of the seminal coming of age literary masterpiece featuring Holden Caulfield, the poster boy of disenfranchised youth, which begins with the famous run-on sentence, ''…If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth...'' Some fading to titling on backstrip and small stain to front board. Previous owner's markings to front free endpaper. Volume and dustjacket in very good condition.
