VINTAGE CHRISTMAS LIGHT BULB - BIRD IN A OLD STYLE CAGE

Here is your opportunity to purchase a Vintage Christmas Fairy Light Bulb designed as a Bird in a Cage. This charming fairy light bulb is of course made of glass which has been moulded into the shape of an old fashioned Bird Cage. It has a hand painted finish and detailing. The wires forming the cage are painted red and apart from the hand painted bird, the rest of the bulb has a white frosted finish. The bulb has a small screw in type fitment, but I don‘t think it will work because it rattles when shaken, so the filament inside is probably broken.

SIZE & MARKINGS

The bulb measures approx 3.2cm (1.2“) in diameter across the base and it is about 6.8cm (2.7“) in height. At the bottom of the screw fitment, there is some engraved wording which reads “16V Foreign”.

This collectable Christmas Light Bulb is in very good condition there are no cracks, chips or restoration in the glass. But as I have already said, I do not think the lamp would work. The hand painted decoration is fairly clean, but there are areas where the paint has been scratched or rubbed. However, it is still quite obvious what it is meant to be.

Although this bulb will not work, it would still make an attractive addition to any collection of Christmas lights because the ones made today are so tiny and very simple. This one comes from an era where there was a fond cosy feel about Christmas and not so commercialised as it is now.
