ABOUT ROSEWOOD:  Rosewood is a tropical hardwood known for its distinctive grain and reddish-highlighted brown tone.  Not only is it one of the World's most beautiful woods, but its stability and dense grain make it ideal for furniture.  Construction of rosewood furniture first involves kiln-drying of the wood over a long period of time to achieve high wood stability relative to changes in heat and humidity.  Assembly is done entirely with the use of mortise and tenon joinery, including the long "floating" panels", no bolts, nails or screws are utilized.  All of the carving is done by hand - making each piece unique.  Finally, seven coats of a natural colored lacquer are applied over a two week period.  Each coat is heat and stain proof.  As the rosewood pieces mature with age and wear they develop unique patinas.  The Chinese government no longer allows export of rosewood grown in China.  Rosewood products newly made in Asia are made w/rosewood grown outside of China.

ABOUT THIS BENCH / LOVESEAT/ SMALL SOFA. For sale is a bench / loveseat / settee / sofa made of solid rosewood and imported to the United States from Hong Kong prior to that city's unification with China. The piece is a darker reddish-brown and has a softer patina than newly manufactured and imported rosewood pieces. The piece featured hand-carved birds and flowers on the back, arm supports and around the base. The carvings are very well done whether seen from the front, side or the back of the piece.  Dimensions of the piece are 66"L x 25"W (at seat base, top of back is somewhat wider) x 33"H (at highest point of the back) x 13"H (seat, allowing for addition of a 3-4" cushion in a fabric of your choice). This piece is a beautiful and useful accent for any room.
