In the '80s, Lone Justice laid the groundwork for such alternative country acts as Uncle Tupelo and The Jayhawks despite only recording LONE JUSTICE and SHELTER before breaking up. Fronted by the gospel-influenced Maria McKee, the band created a cowpunk legacy that is well represented on THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME, a collection of tracks from the band's two albums along with a number of previously unreleased songs. Lone Justice's passion for country music enabled them to give solid readings of the traditional title track and Merle Haggard's "Working Man Blues."
Joining McKee were guitarist Ryan Hedgecock, bassist Marvin Etzioni and drummer Don Heffington. This talented combo attracted such fans as Tom Petty (who penned "Ways To Be Wicked" for the band), Bob Dylan (who contributed the previously unreleased "Go Away Little Boy" and had Ron Wood join him and the band on the session) and U2. Bono was such a fan that when Lone Justice toured with U2, he joined them on a live recording of "Sweet Jane" included on this collection. When they recorded SHELTER, McKee had gotten an entirely new band, written the title track and collaborated with Little Steven on "I Found Love" before moving on to an undervalued solo career.
