1924 MOTHERS OATS CRYSTAL RADIO REPRODUCTION VERY NICE!

Hello , and welcome to my auction. This auction is for a fully working faithful reproduction of a 1924 Mothers Oats crystal radio. The originals were produced as a premium item for Quaker and Mothers Oats by the Marquette Radio corp. in Chicago ill. Not many of the original sets have survived and as such, they are a prize to any collector!

More information about this Crystal Set can be found in the book Crystal Clear vol.2 by Maurice L. Sievers on pages 62 and 63 This set has the radio coil wound under the label same as the original did. From the cat’s whisker detector to the slide tuning and binding posts, the radio is authentic in appearance, and sure to be a center piece in any crystal radio collection. A modern diode has been placed in the circuit beneath the lid so as to make the cat’s whisker operate as a simple switch. This means that all you have to do is touch the whisker to the galena mineral holder and the radio is now receiving. The diode can be removed if so desired, and the galena mineral detector will then operate as normal. That means you will have to search for a “HOT SPOT” on the mineral detector. Tuning is achieved by moving the slider on the side of the container up or down slightly on the coil to tune stations.

All you need to do to receive radio is to connect a pair of high impedance phones 1000 ohm or more (not included), and Connect to a suitable antenna of 50’ of wire or more and to a earth ground. So in short while this is a reproduction, it is done so well you would hardly know it.
