He was the dynamic, sweat-drenched live performer who had to be helped off stage enfolded in a cloak at the end of every gig, and the wild gospel-singing preacher rocking the house in The Blues Brothers. He was one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century. Here is Brown's own remarkable story, from his childhood of poverty and segregation that began in an Augusta brothel through to the superstardom propelled by such legendary hits as 'Please Please Please', 'Papa's Got a Brand New Bag' and 'Sex Machine'.
