Relieved of the pressures of making good on his AMERICAN IDOL promise (as on his debut record), on MY KIND OF HOLIDAY Elliot Yamin is free to take it easy, delivering a relaxed, confident set of old-school soul. The fact that this is a holiday record is almost secondary, as Yamin in general wisely favors lesser-known Christmas songs over time-worn chestnuts. The Richmond, Virginia, native once again confirms his Donny Hathaway worship with a version of the soul legend's "This Christmas" and even the few standards ("The Christmas Song," "Jingle Bells") are framed by funky bare-bones production, which allows Yamin's sparkling vocals to shine their joyful light on the listener.

I am a great fan of his music and this Christmas CD did not disappoint me. Although I like traditional Christmas music, I also like contemporary Christmas music. Elliott Yamin gives us his own soulful, funky, upbeat sound that I found exciting and fun. I especially enjoyed Warm Me Up and Christmas Without Carol but every song is a hit with me. '
