Original Designs
All of our designs are original works copyrighted by Claudio Rayes. His name is stamped into each headboard and footboard as your certificate of authenticity.
A distinct look
The distinct look of our beds is a perfect accompaniment to the objects you love, and will create a unique bedroom with your personal touch.
A very special bed
Our small workshop only makes a limited quantity of beds per year, so unlike big companies that have been manufacturing large quantities for decades, our beds remain both rare and unique. We have been making beds since 1976.
Lifetime Guarantee
The Claudio Rayes name stamped on each headboard and footboard is your certificate of guarantee against any defects for as long as you own the bed.
You will own a bed crafted by artist-artisans
Only devoted craftsmen can give life to a design. These artisans are becoming rare, and hard to find. To master this art a blacksmith has to have a passion for wrought iron.
Our artisans are trained and supervised by Giuseppe Masera (pictured above) a third generation craftsman from a family of blacksmiths renowned in Italy for the quality, style, and finish of their work.
In this traditional old-world process, our artisans fan hot coals to reach the temperature that gives the pure iron its malleability. At this point the red hot iron can be shaped to the vision of the design with a hammer and anvil, resulting in the bed of your dreams.
The quality of your bed
Giuseppe Masera personally controls the quality of our beds by overseeing the artisans. Once ready, he inspects the ironwork, and upon his approval the lower part of the post is heated and the Claudio Rayes name is stamped into the iron, only then is the bed painted.
How your bed is painted
To achieve a fine finish, each bed is hand painted with a brush in the traditional way. The bed is then gilded with patinas applied with a smaller brush and finally sealed with clear lacquer for protection. After each step is completed the paint is baked onto the ironwork in a kiln.
How we choose the finishes
The finish is part of the design and compliments the shape of the piece. For each bed we recommend one particular finish. Our finishes are:
1) classic - timeless styling
2) neutral - complimenting most colors
Designed in Italy and made in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires' ironworks rival those of Rome and Paris. Built by Italian immigrants, the city grew fast during the "Belle Epoque" (1870 to 1920). Wonderful buildings of this period have been declared Historic Monuments by World Organizations.
Architects and Artisans from Italy developed Schools of Fine Arts, and their influence and wealth of talent is easy to see in both the architecture and home furnishings of today. They set a standard of quality that still remains in the designers and craftsmen of Buenos Aires.
Who makes your bed?
Buenos Aires is like an European capital. The people appreciate noble materials like marble, granite, iron and hard woods.
In this environment the artisans that make your bed live and work. They have the "savoir faire" of great ironworkers. They were taught not only the skills of ironwork but also have the passion for it instilled in them. They don't accept imitations.
Made with aluminum castings and hollow tubing, imitations cannot attain the authenticity of the real thing - hammered solid iron.
Your frame quality
The prices in our catalogue include the frame. The quality of the frame is a very important factor in having a strong, sturdy bed.
Most frames weigh less than 30lbs and have only one central support, whereas our frames have two side rails and three central supports. They also have ten points of contact with the floor, and weigh 75lbs for king size and 65lbs for queen size.
Our beds fit American sizes
Queen 60 x 80"
