VINTAGE FABRIC PATCHWORK CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT TOP

The spirit charm and nostalgia of vintage Christmas is arriving early this year! I always prefer to avoid the rush, as the holidays inch closer and closer. After a recent trip   and the discovery of a huge inventory of vintage Christmas items from every category imaginable, I am releasing a varied assortment of treasured holiday items. From the dining table to the Christmas tree, under the tree, mantel and everywhere in between!

Each attic in the array of estate sales that I attended, seemed to tell a story of Christmas' past and the families that cherished these items and their traditions of celebration that spanned many, many decades. As I prepared the many listings of these time worn treasures, it felt like a trip down Christmas memory lane and a far simpler era long ago. I am pleased to offer these vintage Christmas items at auction, so that they may find a place of distinction in a collection, or a position in a vintage holiday decorating and entertaining themed decor so that the glow of Christmas past can continue to evoke memories and new traditions for many, many more Christmas' to come.

At a recent estate sale i had the pleasure of finding an assortmet of VINTAGE CHRISTMAS FABRICS and partially completed holiday projects. The former owner was so organized and had carefully stored each project. It was evident that she had a genuine delight for the holidays but maybe, just maybe she ran out of time to complete the projects!!

Offered in this listing is a VINTAGE COTTON FABRIC PATCHWORK PIECED LARGE CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT TOP.

PLEASE NOTE: It is the TOP only, machine sewn and pieced together in EIGHT sections.

The patchwork skirt top measures a very generous 52" ROUND DIAMETER with an 8" opening at the center. There are EIGHT, pieced, SCALLOPED edge sections that are reminiscent of a DRESDEN PLATE pattern, that have been joined together to create the round tree skirt. I would date the fabric to the 1960'sand I truly admired the former creator's selection of small scale calicos in different values of traditional RED and GREEN printed fabric. There were a total of EIGHT FABRICS USED.

On each section an inset "point" from the scalloped edge creates a radiating STAR in contrasting fabrics around the center opening. This would be a phenomenal project to complete with the addition of a simple solid backing, or for the challenge of adding Christmas themed quilted hand applique designs to each individual section. I imagined candy canes, holly leaves and snowmen. The overall pleasing simplicity of the base fabrics, scale and colors would lend themselves splendidly to a wide range of complimentary fabrics and provide a one-of-a-kind vintage display!

With a little creative imagination I am certain that the new owner can add the desired details and finish this project in stellar fashion!
