According to eBay and USPS, the United States Postal Service and their websites, the shipping cost will be calculated based on dimensional weight, not always the actual weight of your package.
What is dimensional weight?
If you are shipping an item that takes up a lot of space but isn't necessarily, very heavy, a shipping company charges you for the item's dimensional weight or as they refer to it DIM , instead of its actual weight. Light and heavy packages that take up a lot of room in a shipper's trucks or airplanes actually cost the company money to ship if they are charged based only on their actual weight.
According to USPS any package dimension over 12 inches in Length, and or Height, and or Width, qualifies for large package pricing. Basically, USPS, which we use exclusively on our eBay site, incorporates into their rate calculator, the weight of the package, the distance the package has to go from us to you, and the box dimensions. Many of our items which we pack using proper packaging, exceeds the 12 inches they list on their website, and therefore the cost to ship is sometimes high. We hope this helps explains why large items cost more to ship than smaller boxed items under 12 inches. Thank you, Asianchinadoll |
