Old school Sonny and Cher fans should be aware that this is not the 1971 album of the same name, but a curious budget-priced compilation from MCA/Universal Special Products. This set takes about half of that album--including the otherwise-unavailable-on-CD nine-minute album version of "Mama Was a Rock and Roll Singer, Daddy Used to Write All Her Songs"--and adds an equal number of live tracks from their Las Vegas cabaret act, plus both sides of the "You Better Sit Down, Kids" single.
The songs taken from the original ALL I EVER NEED album are that album's best, while the live tracks, including a lengthy Sonny-sung version of the Cher solo single "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," are fascinating in the way they foreshadow the duo's impending television show. Not for novices, but fans will be pleased.
