You are bidding on an Oncidium orchid Oncidium Gower Ramsey 'Volcano Queen'. The picture of the plant is the actual plant on which you are bidding. The other picture show what the flower bloom looks like. Please note that this particular plant is a division of a plant that I have had for many years. It is a small compact plant (now). But it does get larger and the spikes of this Oncidium tend to be quite tall. This division was made about 6 months ago. It is firmly established in the media and is growing well. It is in a 4 inch green plastic pot in a fir bark mix (my own custom mix). The plant itself is about 8 inches tall. This plant has become the standard for yellow Oncidiums, lots of dancing ladies with a bright yellow skirt. It is an easy and vigorous grower. An easy grower, it is multi-flowered and blooms regularly. This particular clone has stronger/shorter spikes with heavier flower substance than the regular Gower Ramsey. At its tallest the top of the spike can reach 3 feet.
Habitat: Oncidium is an extremely large and diverse New World genus and includes plants from many types of environments. Growing tips: Oncidiums like bright light and can even handle some sun depending on the particular species. Oncidium orchids are considered to be intermediate to warm growing orchids with 55-60 degrees F. during the nights and 80-85 degrees F. during the day. Humidity is best between 30%-60% humidity. considered a December blooming orchid from the Oncidium alliance. With watering it is better to water thoroughly and let the mix almost dry out before watering again. It is best to fertilize when the plant is in active growth with a balanced (non urea) fertilizer like 20-20-20 diluted to one quarter strength and used every other watering. Repotting is best done every couple of years or as the room in the pot permits. I like to repot in the spring when there is new growth from the base of the plant.
