 Into the Valley as written by John Hersey in  1943 while the Second World War was still raging and the3 book details the marines on the Island of Guadacanal. It's regarded as a classic of the period.

While the book is a lst edition it does not have the dustjacket but otherwise is in excellent shape.  The  book was perhaps known for the illustrations by Major Donald L. Dickson, USMC as much as it was for the words of John Hersey and his fellow marines.

This first edition volume  while not signed by Hersey is not only signed by Major Dickson but he also has drawn a wonderful figure in uniform on the frontspage.(as noted in the photos)--It states: To Roger and Brooksie 25 November 1944, with fond memories, Don Dickson "Les"...

Certainly a great edition to anyones first edition library or World War II collection or USMC...
