Up for auction is a super tought to find pair of WWII US Navy 10x50 binoculars. These are a large set. The case measures 9 1/2" long x 8 1/2" wide. They retain the even harder to find Leather case which allows you to drop both ends and view while the bino's are still cased and carried on the shoulder. The binoculars are marked 10 X 50 U.S. NAVY-BU.AERO. MARK 23, F.S.S.C. 88-B-345. Bausch & Lomb Opt. Co Rochester N.Y. U.S.A. The are marked on the back center DES PAt. 83,934 ans SER. UK4661. I believe this is a pretty low production model and case. The leather case is stenciled by the Navy with a yellow 14 and they are marked on the bottom Bausch & Lomb USA. The case is in awsome condition for the age. The leather is not dry or cracked. The strap is also looking very nice. The binoculars are sound and do focus and have a clear image. They do have some issues. The rubber eye cups are no longer present. The the body and paint show some normal wear from field use but look pretty good. There is a small dent to the metal on the rim of the end cap. The optics are also not perfect. It looks like the coating on one of the larger end optics has crazing (photoed). There is no chips, cracks, or scratches on the optics. They do have some fine scuff marks from improper cleaning. There is also some minor spots on the inside of the lens. This is a bit detailed but necessary. They do work and are clear when viewing objects. They are a very rare pair of Mark 23 Navy Binoculars with the case. They are fresh out of an old estate and sold as found!!
