DELIVERANCE - JAMES DICKEY
NEAR FINE hardcover in a VERY GOOD PLUS, UNCLIPPED dustjacket.
Boston: Houghton Mifflin. 1970. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. 8vo. 278 pp.
Cream cloth boards with the title stamped in green on the front board, green spine stamping. Boards are straight, corners are sharp. Pages are crisp and like new. Green endpapers. Small faint erasure mark to top fore-corner of half-title page otherwise the book is internally clean, bright, tight and unmarked. This is an exceptionally good copy.
The dust jacket is black with green lettering and an eye illustration on the front panel. Large author's photo on the back. Extremities show small areas of rubbing. The head and foot of the spine show slight shelf wear. There is a 1/8" chip loss to the top spine joint of the back panel. The flaps are excellent and the interior of the jacket shows no staining or foxing. The original price of $5.95 is extant at the top of the front flap. The jacket is now in a protective, archival mylar cover.
The basis for the highly acclaimed 1972 Academy Award-nominated Best Picture starring Jon Voight and Burt Reynolds (for which director John Boorman also earned an Oscar nomination). It is now becoming an increasingly scarce title.
