Orig Lionel 967 Post Office Box w/ Partial Kit, 1958

Up for auction this week will be two fairly hard to find kits - one is the Lionel 967 Post Office kit, and the other is the 966 Firehouse Kit.  These kits are Plasticville kits packaged in original Lionel boxes - Lionel sent the boxes to Bachmann/Plasticville, who then packaged their existing kits in them.  As such, the Post Office kit is the same as that offered in Plasticville packaging of the same era.  The primary interest in this auction is the box itself - that is the rare part.  The Post Office itself isn't that rare of an item.

The box condition is very good - there is one tear, as seen in the pics, on the rear corner.  There is also a little writing on one end.  It looks to be in pencil, but I haven't attempted to remove it.  Otherwise, the box is strong (especially for being 51 years old) and the colors and printing are excellent.

As for the Post Office itself - originally, the kit would have included the PO, vehicles, figures and other extra pieces; this is just the PO itself.  It does include the flag and pole (48 stars, of course, and the hardest part to find), and one of the cardboard window cutouts.  The lights on the front are both broken (unlike the flag pole, you can find repros easily, or get lights from other kits such as the schoolhouse); the building is in good shape, clean, with no broken pieces.

I will package well - not one for throwing items in a box with packing peanuts and hoping for the mercy of the Postal System.  All items will be wrapped well and protected - no extra charge for handling and packing.  Shipping will be $4.95, standard USPS for a package of this weight and size.
