Report item8 1/2 in. wing span (1:144th scale) Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina amphibian seaplane metal Diecast airplane w/stand, United States Navy, 1941, during World War II, MIB (Mint In Blistercard). This model is in the standard late Neutrality Patrol/early war scheme of Blue Gray over Light Gray lower surfaces. The Red disks in the center of the star insignia and the 13 Red and White stripes were removed after 15 May 1942. Catalinas could be equipped with depth charges, bombs, torpedoes, and .50 Browning machineguns and was one of the most widely used multi-role aircraft of World War II. PBYs served with every branch of the US military and in the air forces and navies of many other nations. In the United States Army Air Forces and later in the USAF their designation was the OA-10, while Canadian-built PBYs were known as Cansos. Altaya, of France, have recaptured this immortal plane even down to the official markings. A really nice and unique flying boat model. The landing gear is installed to display the model "on the ground" or to be displayed "in flight", with the landing gear extended, on the handsome plastic display stand that is included. The plastic propellers turn freely over metal shafts and the wheels do not turn on this die-cast aircraft. The model has a low metal content, only the top fuselage component is made of metal.
