Irish Luck
Length: 58 Minutes | Produced:1939

Unlikely heroes save the day in Irish Luck, a lighthearted mystery from the 1930s. In a rare move for the time, African American Mantan Moreland is teamed up with the Caucasian star Frankie Darro, and the two are cast as friends! Both are comically inept, with Darro bungling everything he engages in and Moreland hopelessly timid with all he encounters. Darro and Moreland play a bellhop and a janitor, respectively, at a ritzy hotel. When bodies start turning up (Moreland hilariously keeps stumbling upon them and have panicky moments), the duo insist on getting involved, much to the chagrin of the actual authorities. But the more Darro and Moreland foul everything up, the more they succeed thanks to Darros Irish Luck! This film is great fun and also a way to see Chitlin Circuit (African American vaudeville) performer Mantan Moreland light up the big screen with tremendous comedic flair.
