Many older film cameras can be found when browsing through eBay. Unfortunately, quite a few will suffer from common age-related ailments. As a user or collector, you should be certain that the item you are buying is in good working condition. I will not hide behind such statements as ”Was OK when put away three years ago” and “Not sure if it works, but the shutter clicks and all the dials turn” . Please read the whole text carefully and rest assured that this classic was thoroughly checked and its condition is accurately described below.
Minolta XG-7 was a simpler version of the professional XG-9 model. It is basically the same camera as the XG-9 pro version, without an f-stop display in the finder. It uses an aperture priority auto system, where the user selects an f-stop and the camera chooses the appropriate shutter speed. The speed is displayed in the finder, giving the photographer complete control. Fully manual operation is possible as well, with the user having full control over the complete (B, 1s - 1/1000s) shutter speed and f-stop range. The XG-7 accepts the Auto Winder G and the Electroflash X line of dedicated Minolta flash units.

Unfortunately, the camera will not advance film properly - the film advance lever will not lock at the end of its stroke and thus will not cock the shutter. I have tried the lightmeter with a fresh battery (will not be shipped with the camera) and found it to be in good working condition. Shutter speed display in the finder indicates correct exposure when checked against my hand-held Gossen meter.

Cosmetically the camera is in very nice condition and it does suffer from the ‘leatherette shrinking problem’, common to all Minolta cameras of this era. This is a cosmetic issue only - there is no brassing or dents and leatherette itself is in great condition. Will include an original Minolta strap with an anti-slip shoulder pad. Needless to say, this is an AS-IS auction, with no return privileges.
