Ladies and gentlemen........Welcome to the Fisher Price Play Family Circus (#135)! Produced between 1974-76, this set is EXCEEDINGLY hard to find with all of its pieces, let alone in this condition (EXC++-NEAR MINT)! This is a FABULOUS set and one that lends itself to not only innumerable play possibilities but also to enhanced concept development. It also goes GREAT w/my other FP Circus listing!
This playset consists of the following accessory pieces:
1 RARE, blue drum embellished with silver stars and a jovial clown litho on its reverse side (EXC- handful of tiny bubbles (e.g. 1/4" or less in diameter) along with crinkle in litho (e.g. over green ball and coursing to edge of clown's face; rest of litho is clean and bright; blue platform has darkened due to age; all silver stars fully intact; no chips, scratches, "dings," scrapes etc. on drum's surfaces);
2 RARE, yellow rocking ladders trimmed with GREEN, heat stamped diamonds (MINTY MINT--possesses original shiny lustre; no rubs on any of the GREEN diamonds; no cracks or chews; most of these ladders came embellished with BLUE diamonds; this is the first set of ladders I've EVER seen with GREEN diamonds);
1 RARE, red ring (MINTY MINT--bright red and free of any nibbles, scratches etc.);
1 RARE, yellow trapeze swing (MINTY MINT--this piece is almost impossible to find and it looks brand new!);
1 EXTREMELY RARE, yellow "H" stand (MINTY MINT-- this is the FIRST piece that usually goes "missing" with these sets; it serves as a connecting piece between the two ladders; it also functions as a platform for some of the animal performers);
1 HTF blue elephant with white toenails (NEAR MINT-- tail is intact; a few light surface scratches on ears; minimal discoloration of legs and trunk when compared to body; this is common in these pieces; on many of these elephants, the appendages darken due to age; joints are firm; will hold any number of poses; check out those cute white toenails!);
1 VHTF giraffe with brown spots (VG++-EXC--light rubs on giraffe's brown spots--especially on its neck; tail and horns are completely intact; balls on tips of horns are present but one on the left has experienced some bending and light chews; I've tried to reinforce this horn with rubber cement but I can't guarantee that this won't come off in the future with vigorous playing by a child; tail maintains its original length but there is one set of teensy toothprints on the tuft of the tail; the joints are relatively loose--especially for the neck; however, they still can be positioned to hold a pose; check out the PRISTINE facial features);
1 HTF gray bear with tan oval on stomach (MINT--joints are firm; oval on tummy is PERFECT; facial features are sharp and defined; NO CHEWS);
1 HTF lion with dark brown mane (MINT--tail fully intact and without any chews; GLORIOUS facial features; joints, with the exception of the left rear leg, are firm; latter is a little looser than the rest; glossy coat; one of the BEST lions I've EVER seen[h);
1 VHTF brown monkey with dark brown tail (EXC++-NEAR MINT----check out this guy's facial features and curlicue tail:) NO CHEWS anywhere; joints are firm; some edgewear on feet);
1 RARE, WOOD/plastic red bodied clown with yellow pointed hat and collar (EXC++-NEAR MINT--slight amount of roughness on one sculpted edge of hat; rest of piece is in MINT condition);
1 VHTF, short, WOOD/plastic black bodied ringmaster with black top hat and moustache (EXC++-NEAR MINT--pin head sized scratch to right eye; extremely hard to detect; rest of piece is in MINT condition).
This would make an INCREDIBLE set for any avid FP Collector or for some lucky child.
It would also make a FABULOUS gift for an Early Childhood Educator, Child Psychologist, or Speech- Language Pathologist. This was one of my favorite FP playsets while I was working as a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist. I could easily highlight a variety of different language-based concepts (e.g. in/on/under/beside/on top/upside down/through; long/short; and assorted action words---climbing, rocking, hanging, jumping, swinging, carrying etc.) using these animals and the provided equipment. This set also lent itself to "Guess Who" comprehension games (e.g. "I have a long neck with spots. I like to eat leaves from a tree. Who am I?" or "I have a long, skinny tail. I eat bananas. I go "EEE EEE." Who am I?" etc.).
I will be thoroughly Q-tip cleaning this set with a variety of cleaning products. I spend a minimum of 1- 1 1/2 hours cleaning each FP playset I sell. My sets are IMMACULATE!
You may be wondering why I have selected the template on this listing. Yes, I do have 2, short-haired chihuahuas and 2 Siamese cats. All of my toys are stored on wire shelves in my dry basement. My pets are not allowed access to the basement. Plus, as I mentioned above, I thoroughly Q-tip clean all of my vintage FP toys before shipping them to their new owner.
Remember, this Vintage FP playset is NOT included in the recent FP recall of toys manufactured in China. This playset was manufactured in the good ole' USA in 1974! It's over 35 years young and still exemplifies FP's reputation for imaginative, durable toys.
Purchasers should refrain from allowing children under 3 years of age to play with these toys without adult supervision or to offer these toys to children who may be still mouthing their toys.
