Here is a new in box HO Scale EMD Model 40 diesel engine from MDC's Roundhouse Products line. Though the packaging says Model Die Casting, these engines were not on the market until after the Roundhouse Products line of model trains had been sold to it's new owners. All sorts of HO modelers will recall Athearn's Hustler. This "Critter" was MDC's follow up several decades later. This neat little industrial engine is based on a real engine that EMD made fewer than 20 of, for switching or moving cars around at plants, mines or other commercial or industrial sites. This particular engine being offered is item # 115, decorated for the U.S Army...... This is a protoypical based scheme where the engine is painted olive drab. The deck is painted black. Railings are all white. There is simple white lettering and numbering on the engine, representing the prototype that the military used This could be a starting point for you to add your own local industry's name to the engine if you choose with a fairly simple paint-out. This engine has never been in a hobby store, having been pulled aside for the MDC archives as the business was being turned over to Horizon Hobby / Athearn. I have removed the engine from it's package to briefly bench test it. It does start and stop smoothly and the directional lites work. The engine is DCC ready. The simple instruction sheet, that covers basic care and tells how to access the DCC socket inside the cab, is in the box. The standard equipment on this Critter includes: a 5 - pole skew wound motor with dual flywheels, directional LED lighting, blackened wheels......all 4 of them driven and providing electrical pick-up, it is DCC ready 9 has a regular .. at the time in 2004... 8 pin socket ..2 rows of 4 pins. in the cab, comes with operating knuckle couplers ( with metal springs ) ... and includes horn hook couplers for those who use them. This engine will be safely packed and should travel safely by Priority Mail. The package will be insured. I am cleaning out closets for myself and a friend, who has retired from the manufacturing business. There are many more interesting model train items on the way. Please check my other items periodically. I will add extra cushioning material to the item, if needed, to protect it in shipping. I will gladly combine shipping on items won within a 7 day period. Please ask questions if needed. I will do my best to answer any question submitted at least 24 hours before the item closes.
