This auction is for a Vintage Homer Laughlin Plate. It depicts The Methodist Church in Orange, New Jersey. Dated 1829-1954. # L 54 N 5 The picture of this plate represents the third Church building, the present church edifice, of the Methodist Church in Orange, N.J. The corner stone was laid on October 1, 1904 and dedicatory services held on November 12, 1905. The Methodist Church in Orange, N.J. was organized in 1829 and incorporated in 1830. The Congregation met in Masonic Hall, Main Street Orange, N.J. until 1832 when the first church building, a modest structure 40 X 50, was erected in Main Street Orange, next to the Masonic Hall. After 28 years from the date of the incorporation the second church structure was completed in 1858, the first church structure being moved to the rear of the lot to be used as a Chapel. All this infornation is imprinted on the back of the plate!! No chips or cracks, does show some utensil marks, but in really good condition for being so old. Measures almost 10" in diameter.
