Old Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Color Plates
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has appeared in many different guises since its original publication in 1865, most often with the traditional black and white illustrations by John Tenniel. This Altemus publication was issued in 1897 and features three full-page color illustrations as well as the familiar black and whites. The exterior binding is pictorial cloth. Well worn, inside and out, but the color pictures are unusual and the final 16 pages list other Altemus publications, making this an intriguing reference source. Alice in Wonderland introduces such memorable characters as the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Hookah-Smoking Caterpillar, and the Queen of Hearts.
