CHARLES DICKENS: His Tragedy and Triumph a Biography by Edgar Johnson (1952)  These two volumes are without question the most comprehensive and authoritative biography of Dickens ever published.  What makes this particular biography unique is that the author had access to over 3,000 letters penned by Dickens himself.  So, it stands that Mr. Johnson has been careful to document every single statement of fact.  For anyone who has read the work of Dickens can appreciate, he is one of the great novelists of all time, and to read of the man behind the work, is to see the turmoils and triumphs of the artist himself.  A very fascinating acquisition.
