Combat America
Length: 58 Minutes | Produced:1945

Combat America captures Hollywood stars, gritty shots of the day to day life of World War II pilots, and fantastic aerial footage of bombing missions. Clark Gable felt compelled to join the US Army at the height of WWII and it was natural that a documentary should be made about his company. Gable narrates what became one of the best World War II documentaries ever made. The film covers the complete journey of the crews of the 351st Bombardment Group all the way from a Colorado training field to the skies over Germany. It offers a detailed and sometimes graphic account of the real life of a gunner, including the tense moments before a mission, the odd moment of joking around or playing pranks, and the special event of a USO show (this one has Bob Hope in it). Gable even interviews the men about their lives. The aerial battle footage is also spectacular, featuring battles over St. Nazaire, Emden, Kiel, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, Hamburg, Amien, Flushing, Stuttgart, Brussels, and more. There are exciting dogfights between the United States B-17s and German Messerchmidt & Focke Wulfe fighters, as well as footage that shows just how much damage a B-17 could sustain and still make it back to base. This film also features events such as the awarding of Purple Hearts and Silver Stars, recovery of wounded, repair of planes, B-17 nose art and much more. Combat America is a superb World War II cinema experience.
