Hard to Find Wonderful Old Washboard "NO. NATIONAL 1870"-Vintage Item from National Washboard Company, Saginaw,Chicago,Memphis

This washboard was owned by my Grandmother and I imagine it was used by her Mother too-she left me this about 15 years ago

It is fairly well used, as is normal with vintage items.There is a split in the wooden panel and that same panel is warped but the entire washboard is in one piece and (I have even used this to see if it worked-It makes lots of suds and it has a really smooth washing surface on the Cobalt Blue side)

One side is printed (very faintly) "THE ENAMEL KING", "Top Notch" (for heavier and coarse fabrics).The metal on this side is a sheet of steel with a fused coating of Cobalt Blue Porcelain Enamel.The finish is amazing considering the age.

The other side (National Washboard Company) is just zinc/steel sheet which has a fair amount of rust.I haven't made any attempt to remove it but I imagine steel wool would work

Since this is a vintage item,it isn't perfect.It is probably almost 100 years old as my Grandmother entered the U.S. in 1914

I had this hanging in my laundry room because it looked funky and decorative but I am downsizing and want to go back cruising.There is only so much I can take with me.
