Almost good enough to eat.....
This is a beautiful example of the encaustic on board technique.  This still life seems to have been sculpted rather than painted--the expressive potential of the wax medium gives the viewer a sense of realness.  There is a unique brightness and blending of color in this painting.   The renowned artist is a professor at Rhode Island School of Design.  Wellers work enriches our ability to see into the hidden language of images.  This piece was on display at American Express for almost 20 years.

Encaustic art is art work that is rendered with a wax paint that has been processed with heat at some stage in the creative process, to manipulate the image and to fuse the wax paint within itself and to the support.  This is an art form that has existed for at least 3000 years.

Condition:  Excellent--like new.  Although I tried, I was unable to photograph the texture of the painting to its best advantage.  The texture of the waxed painting is amazing  and is what makes this painting unique.  The fruit jumps off the canvas.
