The worship of idols-and the dark spirts behind them-prevailed. Gustave and Pauline Woerner were among hundreds of missionaries, including Dr. Jaffray, who penetrated that land under the banner of The Christian and Missionary Alliance. Always ready to conquer new worlds for Christ, one day Dr. Jaffray told Gus, "I'm going to sound out the South sea islands (Indonesia)." As much as the Woerners loved Dr. Jaffray, they had no thoughts of leaving China. However, within a short time, a request for their transfer to Borneo came through. "Jaffray's loyal disciple," as Tozer called Gus, followed Jaffray to Indonesia. But the most fruitful ministry of their lives still lay ahead-in North America, at Toccoa Falls College. The legacy of those years rests in hundreds of young people who graduated from Gus' missionary courses and found their way to the ends of the earth. And the missionary homes he envisioned are a blessing to this day. Yes, the heartbeat of Gustave and Pauline Woerner has literally encompassed the world.
