Double Drum Dryer 42x100 Buflovac, Blaw-Knox Roll Dryer

This Blaw-Knox Buflovac double drum dryer was removed from a yeast-drying eration and features 42” diameter by 100” length rolls, which have been callipered and found to be above factory spec for new units! Measurements indicate minimum roll thickness over ¾” (0.75”) which means that this machine had it’s rolls cut only a couple of times during it’s life. A regular time machine, this was built in 1938, but was in regular production when we acquired it from a plant closure.

The rolls are cast iron and are stamped for 100-psi operation on steam. Historically used for powdered milk and whey production, this dryer will process refried beans and a host of food and non-food products compatible with cast iron. The rolls can also be chromed for additional applications.

Two of the photos show the unit in production, not pretty, but it ran reliably and produced high-quality dried yeast product from brewhouse spent grains. The plant had cut the rolls about a year prior to shut down and reported that the rolls held liquid properly.  The floor under the machine showed this to be true. Due to storage the rolls will need regrinding by the buyer.

The machine was dismantled and moved to outside storage, as shown in additional photos. Important items such as the gearbox were stored inside. Only one mishap occurred during dismantlement, a cast iron arm for the blade lift assembly cracked off, but this part is still available from Blaw-Knox, as are virtually all parts for this machine. The gears and pinion are in great condition, typically they look like knife blades on a dryer this age, but these have full teeth, another indication that this machine ran infrequently. The rotary joints were kept by the plant and are not in the sale, but all other dryer-related items shown are included. No hood or ventilation equipment is included.

The machine is believed complete, but due to the storage and transport, a prospective buyer will be given the opportunity to confirm before completing a purchase. The dryer is stored in Florida at a company specializing in these dryers and they can quote partial or complete reconditioning separately. Some documentation is included.
