You are bidding on an original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal. It is gigantic.

It depicts several views of the Veiled Prophet Ball and Parade in St. Louis Missouri.

The Veiled Prophet Ball (commonly referred to as the VP Ball) is a debutante cotillion held each December in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, by a secret society named the "Veiled Prophet Organization" (often referred to as "the VP"), first founded by prominent St. Louisans in 1878, and originally part of the Veiled Prophet Fair (or "VP Fair"), which today is Fair St. Louis. The founders' intent was to create a local celebration in the likeness of Mardi Gras, eventually including pageantry and costuming as well as a parade with floats. Each year, one member of the Veiled Prophet Organization is chosen to serve as the "Veiled Prophet of Khorassan," donning an elaborate costume with a hidden face to preside over the VP Ball. Five of the debutantes are chosen by secret process to form the "Veiled Prophet's Court of Honor," of which one is chosen to be crowned the "Queen of Love and Beauty" by the Veiled Prophet.

The page measures approximately 22.5 x 16 inches, with the engraving filling most of it. It has a fold in the middle. The print was originally folded and tipped into the magazine... this means there are no binding holes along the fold line.

The page is in DAMAGE condition. It has a coffee ring stain in the upper right. There is wear in the fold line and a darkeninf smudge in the lower middle. A small tear in the outer margin fold line. Even so, still a nice piece of Missouri history!

This is NOT a recent copy or modern reproduction, but a antique GENUINE item.

All prints are delivered in an archival sleeve and rolled in a sturdy tube. I stand behind my products and offer a FULL REFUND if you think the product does not match the description in any way.
